Preparing To Take Your Driving Test

When preparing for your driving test it is important that you do everything you can to make sure you are at your best before taking to the wheel.

Taking a driving test, as with many other tests, can be quite stressful as the outcome is an important one. You have spent months practising your driving skills and now is the big day, you do not want to fail.

Before you take a test try and get a lesson for the hour preceding. Most instructors will arrange for one last lesson to brush up on hat you have been learning so as to combat any last minute nerves. Drive around the area you will be tested in so as to familiarise yourself with the roads and any changes like roadworks.

Never take a test if you have been drinking alcohol before. For some people alcohol helps people to relax but it is a serious offence to consume alcohol and drive. The same is true for drugs, d not ever use drugs whilst driving.

In these modern times nearly everybody has a mobile phone. Ensure that it is switched off, do not put it on to vibrate and leave it in your pocket, this is another easy distraction.

When you first sit in the vehicle with the examiner try to relax. If you are feeling nervous breath in deep, hold for ten seconds then breath out. The examiner is used to people being nervous so do not feel afraid as this is all in a days work for him.

Once you are driving try and talk yourself silently through the test. Tell yourself that you are fine and all is easy, if for instance you are asked to reverse into a corner tell yourself that reversing is easy and you have managed it loads of times before.Be confident your instructor would not put you in for your test unless they thought you were capable.

If at any time you stall the vehicle do not panic, this can happen to the most advanced drivers. Just take your time, put the vehicle into neutral and try again, this will not lead to a major fault if you deal with it properly.

Everybody makes mistakes, tests are exactly what they are, testing your abilities and under pressure we all tend to make mistakes. If you feel you have made a mistake, don't instantly assume you've failed,it may only have been a minor fault. Put it behind you and carry on driving as well as you can.

Keep your eyes on the road at all times, never try and talk to the instructor and listen intently to the instructions they give you. If you are unclear of the instructions do not be afraid to ask them to repeat the instruction.
