Presentation Basics: Using Banner Stands To Enhance Your Speech
Most people think of banner stands as something to be used specifically on the convention floor to enhance trade show stands
. Although they are often used for this purpose, they can be just as powerful when used off the floor as a visual aid for a presentation. With proper design, a banner stand can become a powerful tool for communicating your main points, or simply for identifying your company information in the background.
Is A Banner Stand The Right Choice?
The first question you should consider is whether your type of presentation will benefit from this visual aid. Most do, but you might not be able to arrange it in time, or make proper use of it during your actual speech. Will any data or statistics be referenced in your talk? If so, it is almost always beneficial to have a visual reference for complex numbers, making portable displays a wise choice.
Likewise, consider the length of your talk. If it's longer than about a minute, it will probably be helpful to provide an outline which will aid your audience in staying focused. Even the most interesting speaker can be difficult to listen to for a prolonged period of time. If you are supported by small trade show stands which explain where your talk is going, people will often find it easier to follow you there. Generally speaking, the only reason why you should avoid portable trade show displays for your speech is if they are specifically prohibited or would interfere with your space on the stand.
Using Small Portable Displays As The Primary Visual
Portable displays provide a significant advantage to you as a speaker. Whether you are presenting in a room at the convention, or are pitching to a boardroom, you can always be certain that your banner stands can be set up. This is not always the case for a computer presentation, as the necessary technology is not assured. In addition, a small banner-type unit is very easy to carry, which makes it favorable for an individual who travels frequently and makes many presentations. While it may be somewhat difficult to update the text on an individual banner, most stands allow you to swap out one banner unit for another, allowing for easy changes. However, if you change your text very frequently, this type of unit might not be practical.
Combining Trade Show Stands And Computer Technology
Recently, many companies have shied away from relying upon computers or trade show displays exclusively for their presentation needs. Instead, they are using the two in tandem. The trade show displays often present a backdrop, usually a company logo and possibly an outline. The computer then fills in the gaps with a slideshow containing pictures and text targeted to that particular element of the speech. If a speech is less factual, the banner stands can remain while the computer is unused. If space is tight, the computer might be used alone. This type of setup tends to provide good flexibility for companies and individuals using it, although many have also found success by using either one alone.
