. I have been trading the financial markets electronically for over 15 years, and during that time I have come to learn what technology online traders need, what works best and what does not. This is one of 20 EZ Tips on How to Buy a Trading Computer. My goal in this series is to educate you, inform you, and hopefully save you over 1000 dollars on your next trading system. You need to know about Computer Processors and the best place to compare processors is at cpubenchmark dot net and click on common cpus and overclocked cpus. Also, look around that site, you will learn all kinds of cool stuff. For traders the most reliable Processor is going to be Intel and the absolute minimum requirement in terms of speed will be the Intel Core 2 Quad Series or the Intel I series. I really recommend is Intels flagship processor the core I7 series. Intel does have another line of fast processors called the Xeon series but these chips are primarily used in servers; traders do not need this processor! I have seen computer companies trying to sell this processor to traders. The next component you need to think about is the motherboard. Reliability and quality are everything in a motherboard! The best brands in motherboards are Asus, EVGA and Gigabyte. The minimum requirement in the motherboard category would be the ASUS P 6 T S E in my opinion. But the one I really recommend is the ASUS P6X58 D Premium. This is a truly special board for a few reasons. 1. It allows you to connect 2 separate internet connections like DSL and Cable without the need for buying additional equipment . This saves you money in the long run. Second this board is guaranteed to be ready for Intels next generation of processor which is currently codenamed the i9. This guarantees that the motherboard will have a longer useful life than the average motherboard.
