Project Manager Resume - 6 Big Things You Must Never Do

Do not present anything negative

Do not present anything negative

You resume is in effect a sales document. When youre selling a product you never want to present any negative information that might detract from the sale. In this case youre selling you. So you want to be positive about everything even the most terrible job youve had!

Do not Spell a name, place or company wrong

This is the biggest sin possible in a project managers resume. There are just no excuses for misspelt places, projects, names, people, companies etc. Not only does this indicate you can't communicate properly, it sends the message to recruiters that you don't proof read and don't care about your documents. This is definitely not the message you want to give.

Do not put your age on your resume

Rightly or wrongly people have pre conceived ideas about things such as age. Some believe that we are too old or too young to hold certain positions. In this early stage of job hunting we don't want someone to make a judgement based on our age. We want to someone to make a call based on our experience.

Do not put your photo on your resume

People all too often make judgements on the wrong things, lets face it, its human nature. But ever heard the saying dont judge a book by its cover well unfortunately people do. Let your resume do the talking for you not your picture.

Do not point to a web site

Pointing to a personal website can mean disaster. If you do want to point to a resume then check it to make sure it does not contain any negative comments, negative pictures or links to your alternate facebook life.

Do not use a standard resume template

A template is extremely useful in speeding up the time to apply for jobs. However there can be a problem with this approach if not done correctly. Unless your resume is actually written by a project manager who has just recently got a job you run the risk of your template looking like one of the old style word templates.

If you steer clear of these resume no nos youll already be ahead of the game
