Promoting Your Business on Facebook and Twitter

Promoting Your Business on Facebook and Twitter

So, you've got a Facebook and Twitter page - what next? Of course, if you're a beginner at social media marketing, you'll probably let a few days pass and hope that some fans/followers will start showing up, right? Well, you're doing it the wrong way if you're waiting for good graces to come along so easily.

Rising to the top of the social media marketing game is easy if you know how to play your aces right. Here are some practical tips to maximize your business' social media exposure:

1. Don't spam and use bots. Spamming is the rudest and most dangerous way of getting solicited views and victimized fans/followers for your page. Once you've been marked as spammer, you'll be blacklisted, and who knows what Facebook or Twitter has in store the next time you deliberately spam again - a lawsuit, public humiliation perhaps? Look "Adam Guerbuez" on Google and see if we're kidding. But how do even know that you're in the grounds of spamming/botting? For one, you're using third-party tools which are explicitly prohibited by the site's Terms of Service (TOS). Examples of these tools are the ones promising you to "get xxx,xxx followers per day" or "send xxx,xxx messages per day," which are in fact ridiculous in the slightest sense, because Facebook and Twitter puts restrictions on the amount of users you can manually add and send messages to per day. To add, bypassing these restrictions may force these social media networks to block all future access or registration, even if you're using an anonymous proxy. They're smarter than you think, to tell you quite honestly.

2. 'Plug' your site. Going to a high-traffic Facebook page, joining in on the discussion, and mentioning your page, are great ways to get traffic. Send a polite message to the administrator of the page and ask him/her to mention you in their upcoming posts, and you might even get a chance to be included in their box of 'recommended pages'. Twitter, however, requires more 'finesse' and 'stylez', since a user with lots of followers has barely the time to reply to dull posts. And, if you get lucky and catch that user's attention with a direct message or a mention, you might just get a reply mention from him/her. Don't start a flame war, though, or you might end up getting banned for misdemeanor.

3. Start a discussion thread. For your information, being the first one to start a highly-anticipated or highly-talked about thread will not only get you noticed on Facebook, but on Google rankings as well. If your thread solves a highly-debated problem, you're in luck - Google indexes Facebook discussion threads that resolve popular issues.

4. Use all those boxes. For a website that has a color of motif of only blue and white, Facebook surely does give you a lot of boxes to use. There's a box for everything you want to add. The best part is, they're absolutely free to use. Post a video, add a note, add HTML for product banners and start adding functionality and poise to your page.

5. Communicate. I seem to have never seen a Facebook page with a million fans or a Twitter page with the same amount of followers without this one common quality - admin-to-user interaction. Admins of popular pages on social media networks always make it a point to post at least two relevant messages to their fans every day. Interaction involves several outlets of communication: giving away promos/coupons; shelling out raw details on an upcoming product; asking questions and replying to fan/follower queries; asking them to help you decide by starting a poll; asking them to help you get more fans/followers by posting your link on their walls; and posting something that's mildly offensive, but purely rational just to get a discussion going.

Now, see how easy those tips are by implementing them today. If I were you, I'd stop looking at others people's pages and started concentrating on my own social media profiles before other people find out these secrets.
