A rugged display device attached to metal racks and normally used in industrial or commercial environments is known as a Rackmount monitor

. This device is mounted on a steel or aluminum frame rack with regularly spaced holes that are attached to the corresponding holes in the steel bars on the rack. This allows the equipment to be secured on to the rack. These rack monitors are available in various sizes such as 1U, 6U, 7U, 8U and 9U LCDs, short or shallow depth LCDs or sunlight readable LCDs. The short depth LCD is 18.9 deep and is made to fit in smaller than normal depth server rack environments.

Operating on plug and play functionality, these devices do not require any additional drivers or other such software. Screen sizes of the rack LCD range from 17, 19 and 20 Samsung LCD and support video connections such as VGA, HDMI, DVI-D, Composite, S-Video, BNC, HDMI and Touch Screen (Resistive, Capacitive and Infrared). Resolutions range from 1024x768 up to 1600x1200. These units are equipped with lock out rails to prevent keyboard movement. Some of the devices also have additional security features in the form of front access locks.

The quad screen LCD is a perfect choice for surveillance as it enables viewing four video inputs simultaneously on a single screen. Available in two versions, 4:3 and 16:9 video resolution, this device has screen sizes ranging from 17 to 22. Rackmount sunlight readable LCDs are designed so that the video can be clearly seen even in outdoor lighting conditions. Compatible with IBM, HP, Dell, Sun Microsystems and others, these devices have brightness up to 1000 cd/m2.

A key feature which is present in the 1U variant of this device is the unique flip up design that allows the unit to remain open even when the rack door is closed. They also have OSD controls for Brightness, Contrast, Color, Clock, H. Position, V. Position, Phase, Scaling, Auto config, Input select, Multi window, Clear EEPROM, OSD adjust and Save. The unique mechanical design of the Rackmount monitor maximizes rack mountable space making it a perfect choice in space restricted environments.
