Ray Lamontagne Tickets - Returns To Major Theaters With New Album

It seems fitting that Ray LaMontagne recorded his last album

, God Willin' & the Creek Don't Rise, was recorded in a barn. The country boy with pop standards recorded his fourth album, set for release August 17, in a Massachusetts barn built in 1811. "Every morning we had breakfast at a place called Elmer's in Ashfield and then drove a mile to the barn," he said to Rolling Stone recently. In support of the new addition LaMontagne will hit the road with David Gray come August 15 for a 17 date American amphitheater jaunt. Hear the new tunes, like "New York is Killing Me" and "This Love is Over," live with Ray LaMontagne tickets online.

While the new lyrics seemed rooted in deep emotional problems, LaMontagne reassures fans that they are nothing of the sort. Instead of producing lyrics rooted in personal problems, LaMontagne writes just to write. "They're just songs," he continued with Rolling Stone. "They have nothing to do with me. I just channel emotions into lyrics. It bugs me that people think my songs are personal because it means I have to explain myself all the time."

Instead the relatively shy performer, who oddly enough loves to perform in huge amphitheaters, prefers to keep his personal life separate from his music. That type of production will allow his music to live in infamy. "I want to write music that will outlive me," he said. "I haven't done it yet and I don't even know if I'm getting closer, but I think I'll know when I've done it."

Though his music is based in the classic folk standards of Stephen Stills, an artist he first hails as his inspiration for turning to music, he takes influence in all genres. After moving around as a kid, LaMontagne quickly put together a ten track that divulged a bit about his youth raised by a single mother with five other siblings. The tunes were good enough to catch the attention of Jamie Ceretta of Chrysalis Music Publishing, who teamed up LaMontagne with Ethan Johns for the debut Trouble.

He instantly impressed critics with his catchy folk tunes like the title track and "Narrow Escape," making the album an underground favorite. He returned with the RCA Till the Sun Turns Black in 2006, followed by 2008's Gossip in the Grain. While he claims his current album is a step in a completely new direction, critics believe LaMontagne has hardly stayed constant in any of his four albums. With Till the Sun Turns Black the singer/ songwriter impressed audiences with his turn from straightforward roots to subdued classics with string instruments and unique vocal projection.

Not surprisingly, heads were turned once again when Gossip in the Grain appeared, though he continued to use producer Johns in the studio. With a bit more pop, folk, country and R&B, LaMontagne earned radio favorites - for the first time - with "You are the Best Thing," "Sarah" and "Henry Nearly Killed Me (It's a Shame)." When he returns to major amphitheaters this fall you're not going to want to miss this enthusiastic performer, so pick up Ray LaMontagne tickets today.
