Reach The Heights Of Driving In New Zealand
If there is one word that really gives you a flavour of what to expect in New Zealand it is this scenery
. No matter where you go, from the towns to the villages, up the mountains and down to the rivers, you'll be met with some of the world's most breathtaking scenery wherever you end up.
It's no wonder then that so many people love driving on both the North and the South Island here. New Zealand certainly has a lot to offer and you can get up pretty high for some amazing views as well.
The good news is that you could be anywhere in New Zealand, and you will be able to either see or be standing on a hill of some kind. A full three quarters of the islands are hilly to say the least, and there are some pretty spectacular mountains here as well.
If you really want to explore some mountainous driving opportunities, you'll need to head to the South Island. This is where you will find all the highest mountains the country has to offer, including the biggest one of them all: Mount Cook.
If you make it to the Mount Cook Village you might even decide to get a better view of the skies by hopping in a helicopter. There are regular scenic flights taking place from here that will give you the chance to get out from behind the steering wheel of your car for a while. If you want to travel from Christchurch to Queenstown (or vice versa) Mount Cook provides a great stop off point along the way.
You won't want to miss out on driving along the Lindis Pass either. This is another popular driving route in New Zealand. It is a very pretty road with plenty of mountainous scenery to enjoy. With that said it is not uncommon to reach the key stretch of the Lindis Pass and find yourself driving through low cloud. As you can see, it really can feel as if you are driving in the clouds in New Zealand!
It pays to plan ahead if you are going to take some drives of this kind in New Zealand. Research what you can and discover what the best routes are that take you through some of the more mountainous regions of the country. With so many mountains and hills to explore you can test your driving skills on roads that have very little traffic indeed.
You might get a few
windscreen scratches en route to your destination, but the sights you will see on the way will be worth it. If you thought driving was boring, think again. New Zealand is more than capable of changing your mind.
