Reaching Routes From Nagpur To Indore

Nagpur, located in the Deccan Plateau, is known as the orange capital of India because it is the major cultivator and trade centre for oranges

. Since Indore is situated in the centre of the country, it has the Zero Mile Marker, which indicates the geographical centre of India.

Bakht Buland Shah, who was the Gond King of Deogad, laid the foundation of the city in 1703. It was named Nagpur because the Nag River flows through the city. Gavilgad Fort, Dragon Palace Temple, Forts of Balapur, Adasa, Maharaj Baug and Zoo are the main sightseeing attractions in and around the city.

The distance from Nagpur to Indore is about 600 km. Located in the Malwa plateau, Indore is blessed with age-old forts, palaces and intricately carved temples. Indore is believed to have derived its name from the temples of Indreshwar and Indrapur. Rao Nandlal Chaudhary was the founder of Indore.

Rajwada Palace is the major attraction here. The 200-year-old Palace is a seven-storey structure with three lower levels constructed in stone and the remaining floors in wood. Among the other attractions in Indore are Chhatri Bagh, Lal Bagh Palace, Bada Ganpati Mandir, Kanch Mandir, Annapurna Temple, Geeta Bhawan and Indore Museum.

Indore is well connected with Nagpur by air, rail and road. Major airlines like Jet Airways, JetLite and Kingfisher have regular flights from Nagpur to Indore. The flight takes more than an hour to reach the destination.

There is no direct daily train from Nagpur to Indore. Three trains run to the destination on certain days of the week. They are (with the days of operation in brackets) Nagpur-Indore Tri-Shatabdi Express No.12914 (Mondays), Nagpur-Indore Express No.12924 (Wednesdays) and Thiruvananthapuram-Nagpur Ahalyanagari Express No.16326 (Saturdays). All the three are night trains reaching Indore in the morning. The trains take 10 hours and 30 minutes to 12 hours to travel from Nagpur to Indore.

Since the demand for reservation in trains outnumbers the availability berths and seats in trains, there is a high demand for road travel by the passengers. Though the distance by road (600 km) is a bit high, the travellers queue up at bus stands and taxi stands to travel from Nagpur to Indore. The travel agents and private bus operators ply buses at regular intervals. Private bus operators charge a rate from Rs.600 onwards. The direct buses take about11 hours to reach the destination from Nagpur.

There is a big demand for travel in taxi cabs. The taxi cabs charge a fare ranging from Rs.12 to Rs.25 per kilometre (one way) depending on the type of car the travellers hire. The taxi cabs take about 10 hours to travel from Nagpur to Indore. The road route passes through Amravati, Khandwa and Mhow.
