When your feet hurt, it's tough to get moving in the morning

. Exercise is clearly out of the question until your feet feel better. But until that happens, there's still the matter of getting out of bed, placing your feet on the ground and getting started living your day.

Fortunately, there are several solutions to foot problems that you can try:

Get an Evaluation

Visit a certified pedorthist who is trained to understand pathologies of the foot, can evaluate your pain and educate you about the various foot conditions. The pedorthist is more like a pharmacist than a doctor and will be familiar with various orthotics, arch supports, shoe inserts or other products that might help your condition. He does not diagnose medical conditions.

Or you can go to the next and more expensive step of seeing a podiatrist about your feet. Some of the conditions the podiatrist may diagnose include heel pain, plantar fasciitis, metatarsalgia, bunions and arthritis. The doctor can write a prescription for products to help, like custom orthotics.

Go Shopping

We know your feet hurt, but you need to find supportive footwear that can bring a significant degree of relief. You need to go shopping, even if you just start online. You will probably be surprised when you see the variety of supportive footwear available for all ages and genders.

Brands

Some of the popular brands of truly supportive footwear include New Balance, Finn Comfort, Clarks, Merrell, Ecco and Keen.

New Balance

New Balance is known for its athletic shoes, but the company makes more than the sneakers you wear to walk the dog.

For all-day comfort, men can try the New Balance MW927BK. It's a walking shoe designed for maximum stability. It has a leather upper that is durable and lets your feet breath. It is approved as a shoe for diabetics and has full cushioning, support and maximum shock absorption. More of a sneaker, the Men's New Balance MW926WT features a "rollbar" that offers the best in stability. It sports a white, full-grain leather upper and is also approved for diabetics.

For active women, New Balance offers style WW955GT a low-cut country walking shoe. Its nubuck leather is soft, durable and lets your foot breath. Cushioning in the heel and forefoot will absorb the shocks your feet take and its inner lining offers waterproof protection. Yes, this shoe can take you up hill and dale, but if you've got an indoor activity planned (like shopping), these shoes are just as durable at the mall and will keep your feet comfortable and secure.

Another choice for women is the industry-leading motion control walking shoe. Its white leather uppers are comfortable and durable. But inside is another great shock absorber and outside is a solid, foot-stabilizing sole.

Finn

Finn has a wide line of comfortable shoes for women some more focused on fashion, while others are strictly designed for comfort. The Women's Comfort Orb is a classy leather walker that you can wear to the office with pride. Its shiny leather upper has an adjustable Velcro strap. The cork footbed supports your foot and the organic suede liner provides cool comfort. The polyurethane sole gives you the shock absorption you need when you're on your feet for the day.

Finn also offers less flashy versions of its comfort shoes, like the Comfort Newport. With a smooth leather upper, this shoe is easy to get on and off with the addition of an elastic side gore which also improves the fit. It has an orthopedic footbed and a shock-absorbing polyurethane outsole.

Finn also designs comfort shoes for men, starting with the Comfort Pretoria. It is a smooth leather oxford that laces up. It is designed to strengthen your feet while easing the strain on them. They have a rounded look, not unlike an Earth shoe or anti-gravity shoe. The key to their support is the heel cup that stabilizes and supports the foot. For a dressier look, check out Finn's Comfort Dijon shoe for men. It resembles the slim European bowling shoe, with a slim line, stitching details and less bulk than the Pretoria.

Clarks

Clarks offers comfort shoes for both men and women, like Showtime, the classic oxford for women. It is a slimline shoe with hidden laces. Its leather upper is flexible, yet fully encompasses the foot for better stability. The shoe has plenty of cushioning and padding that will absorb shocks. And it has a lightweight sole that cuts down on foot fatigue.

Men who want to take in the great outdoors in a comfortable pair of shoes should look at Clarks' Charles sandal. This sturdy, closed-toed fisherman sandal will go from the shore to cabin. With four straps running down the foot and one cross strap running up the foot, this sandal can be adjusted for a snug fit. The no-slip, rubber grip sole will keep you on your feet, and the Lycra lining will dry quickly if you happen to run into any puddles.

So if your feet hurt, that's no excuse to stay in bed. With the right care and the right pair of comfort shoes you should be up and running in no time.
