Recovery Is Based On An Individual's Level Of Enthusiasm
You can recover from any addiction on the face of the earth
, but it takes willingness and guts. You have to actually admit to yourself that you want to quit the problem you are having, whatever that problem is. What does that mean?
They say there are seven factors to determine whether someone is actually willing to change and commit to recovery. We'll outline those in a minute. But basically it is about being able to go along with the plan of action without being forced to do so.
The Seven Factors for Determining Willingness to Recover:
1. Being Honest: You have to be honest in order to seek help. Honesty means being truthful about your situation, not just with yourself but with your aid workers and associates.
2. An Action Plan: Be willing to find an action plan and then follow through it all the way to the end. Whether it is the typical 12-step program or something else, do it all the way.
3. Trust: This means being able and willing to trust that whatever program you are in as your best interests at heart and will help you to succeed in life in general.
4. Obedience: Once you are in a recovery program you have to be willing to follow directions. You cannot any longer decide what you are and are not willing to do. It isn't about your own decisions any more.
5. Faith: You must have faith that what you are doing will help in the long run. The faith is that there is something at work in the universe that will make you stronger in the end of the day.
6. Willingness to Join: You must be able to join group interactions. There is no way to do this thing alone. You have to have the support of as many people as you can. There are people there for that.
