Reflexology - An Ancient Therapy For Modern Ailments
Many answers to problems of today come from the past
. Reflexology, an ancient therapy based on body zones, is as ancient as the hills yet is as relevant today as at any time in history. There is evidence of reflexology in China dating back 5,000 years; it was practiced in Egypt over 4,000 years ago.
What ancient peoples knew, and we understand too, is that reflexology stimulates the flow of energy through channels in our body to affect our organs and body parts.
Researched and practiced in many countries around the world, the earliest known written work on the subject was published in central Europe in 1582, while adventurers sailed the world in search of discoveries for Queen Elizabeth I. Reflexology was brought to the attention of the modern 'western' world in the late nineteenth century and today is offered widely, often in conjunction with other life enhancing therapies.
So here we are in 2012. I'm tempted to say 'if you're suffering from stress' but really, nowadays, it should be 'when suffering from stress'. There's no getting away from stress, tension, fatigue. It's more important than ever to make time for relaxing, rejuvenating therapies. Reflexology is my favourite, I've been lucky enough to have many reflexology treatments, and always come away from a treatment with, literally, a spring in my step. Makes me feel great! It could well do the same for you!!
Reflexology aims to increase the overall relaxation in our body, in turn improving nerve and blood supply, restoring balance. The body feels refreshed, revitalized, better able to cope with the strenuous demands of modern life.
This improvement in our body's functioning can aid aches, pains, hormonal problems and, my personal niggle, digestive complaints. In my experience reflexology works brilliantly, and is a lot nicer than taking medicines. Since finding reflexology I've stopped taking antacids altogether!
Foot reflexology is based on the principle that there are reflexes in our feet relative to each organ, function and part of our body. By applying pressure to specific parts of our feet our systems are stimulated, toxins expelled, energy channels unblocked. For instance pain in a shoulder usually corresponds to discomfort in the big toe on the same side, when the reflexologist gives the toe some tender loving care the shoulder symptoms can seem much improved.
Reflexology encourages our body's own powerful healing potential. It does not, of course, promise any cures or diagnosis of disease, but can tell the reflexologist if an organ, function or part is congested, sluggish or tense and may warrant a closer look.
Reflexology is relaxing and comfortable, and proven to be totally safe. Try it and see.
Who would have thought our feet are so interesting!
