Reliability Of Plasma Tv Sets Holds Up Well Against Lcd Competitors
Products on sale at electrical retailers have been evolving quickly in recent years
, and nowhere has this transformation been more rapid than in televisions. The first wave of innovation was all about plasma screens. These enabled TV sets to very quickly become much larger, and they soon became a fixture in pubs and clubs as well as living rooms where the space was available across the land.
Plasma TVs, though, have simply served as an appetiser for what is to come, and now the game has moved on once again, with the introduction of LCD monitors. These were first widely adopted for use as computer screens, but the quality of the images they produce has since seen them become the standard for large-screen televisions as well. And although this might have been expected to signal the end for plasma televisions, on the evidence of this survey that is not proving to be the case.
Indeed, one major manufacturer, Panasonic, has just come out on top of a survey which rated the reliability and service given by plasma and LCD TV makers in spite of the fact that its range still concentrates on the former. Overall, the survey showed that high-definition TV buyers were far more satisfied with their products than the buyers of other major TVs and computers. Just over one in 11 HDTV buyers reported a major problem with the HDTV sets, compared with nearly one in three of desktop computer buyers, and just over one in four of those who had bought a laptop computer.
The performance of Panasonics HDTVs far outstripped the worst of their rivals, but according to the research, the differences in reliability between the major manufacturers at the top end of the results were very small. In this hotly-contested market, Panasonic only just edged out rival TV manufacturers LG and Sony. It was one of only two major manufacturers which achieved a better than average rating for the overall reliability of their plasma and HDTV product ranges.
LCD TVs have the edge with buyers concerned about the running costs of their new televisions, but it appears from the research that Panasonic is continuing to keep the flame burning for plasma TVs, even in the face of the massive campaigns being mounted to try to persuade buyers to opt for LCD TVs or the even more sophisticated LED TVs which are now becoming more widely available.
