Remodeled Virginia Basements Make Neighbors Envious

Your Virginia basement doesn't have to be just another underappreciated and poorly decorated space

. Who says your basement is limited to storage? You can renew that space and turn into something that's for more usable, making it a living space worthy of being part of your home. All you need to do is stick to three common principles when remodeling your basement

If your basement is still in its original condition, then it likely still has concrete walls and exposed pipes. You will need to begin with the basics of in this case, with finishing insulation and drywall.

The first thing you can do is add light. Whether that lighting is natural or artificial, it will make a great deal of difference in the overall ambiance of your basement. Since most basements, being underground, happen to be rather dark and gloomy, then adding light is essential.

A raised basement gives you the best option of natural light. Install as many windows into your basement as you can, and the sunshine will come pouring in. If you are a person who enjoys their privacy, there are even window treatments that will let in lots of light without giving away what you are doing down there.

If natural light just isn't an option for you, then an abundance of artificial light with the ability to select different light levels will allow you to use your basement space for whatever you like.

The next principle is to add color. A bright or dramatic color scheme would be ideal due to the darker nature of most basements. Bright colors and atypical colors add a lot of flare and personality to an otherwise uninviting space.

The right accessories make all the difference in the enjoyment of the basement for young and old. One of the best parts of the basement is your ability to shut out the rest of the world and relax with your favorite hobby.

Your newly remodeled basement should probably have a small section in it that is still reserved for storage. You don't have to, though. Your Virginia basement can be a place where you can keep all of the rest of the world away, if you can find a place for that extra stuff. When you have considered all of your options, and have put your imagination to work visualizing your new space, call a general contractor to go over your options.
