Renault India Planning To Launch New Small Car Priced Less Than Rs 4.5 Lakhs

Renault India is now looking forward to launching another new car in India

. This would be done in wake of expanding the company"s portfolio in India, this new model is expected to come with a meagre price tag of less than Rs 4.5 lakhs. Mr Marc Nassif, the Head, Renault India mentioned during the media drive organized in the second week of July that the company is now evaluating options to launch a new model in India which will have a price tag of less than Rs 4.5 lakhs. Currently the French auto maker has Renault Pulse hatchback in its India portfolio which comes which a starting price of Rs 4.5 lakhs for the petrol variant.

The company recently launched its first volume segment car, the Renault Duster compact SUV in the beginning of the July month. To Renault India"s relief the company has received a good response from the people and has managed to rope in good number of sales. This has been the most ambitious launch from the French car maker so far. The company is now eyeing to achieve monthly sales of 30,000 units for the current financial year. The new Duster SUV has already managed to get 8000 bookings in less than a month"s time from the date of its launch in India. The numbers are expected to soar in future and hopefully it would become a high selling car from the stables of Renault in India.

Apart from this new model to be priced under Rs 4.5 lakhs, the company is also developing a new sedan which will be based on Nissan Sunny sedan. The new sedan from Renault based on Sunny will be christened Renault Scala. This sedan is likely to be launched in India by the festive season of Diwali. Auto pundits believe that Renault Scala will be able to successfully further push the monthly sales of the company. Renault Scala will be placed and price above Nissan Sunny sedan therefore expect the Renault Scala Price to be above Sunny. Despite the efforts which the company is making by launching low priced cars in India the company still lags behind in less number of dealerships in the country.

Currently Renault has a total of 55 distributors in the country present in major cities of India. Renault plans to open 45 more dealerships in India by the end of 2012. Coming back to this new small car which will be priced less than Rs 4.5 lakhs it is rumoured that Renault will introduce its global partner Datsun brand in the Indian car market under its own badge. The launch of cars launched under Datsun will be launched in the year 2014 and most of the cars will be priced under Rs 5 lakhs. These cars will be manufactured at the Renault-Nissan facility located in Chennai.

Renault has borrowed Nissan Micra"s platform to make its premium hatchback Pulse. Similarly the company will develop Scala based on Sunny. Nissan-Renault"s association goes a long time back and has strengthened over a period of time. The small car codenamed K2 is being conceived on the V-platform and the I2 will be based on a new platform though. K2 will rival with Hyudnai"s best selling Hyundai i10 hatchback and Maruti Wagon R hatchback. While I2 will compete with entry levels small cars like Maruti Alto and Hyundai Eon. As per Renault India, there will be close to 6.5 million cars running on the Indian roads by the year 2020. The French car maker has realised the importance of the Indian car market and now it plans to make it the top three car markets. The company is also aiming to achieve a heavy market share in the domestic market.
