Colorado's renewable energy challenge has been one of the top priorities for The Governor of Colorado, Bill Ritter. In March 2010 he signed a bill into law that heightens the state's renewable energy standard to over 30% in the next 10 years. The new law is positioning Colorado as the second most advanced US state in clean energy mandates, right behind the state of California. The new law outlines several clean energy targets, one of them is to reduce green house gas emissions by 30 million tons of carbon, which is equal to emissions produced by 700,000 cars in 1 year.

Renewable energy in Colorado had been receiving substantial investment in infrastructure and an increasing number of renewable energy project developments, on a small scale and large as well. These types of investments are creating jobs in the energy sector and are helping to boost Colorado's economy.

Colorado is taking important steps to become a leader in renewable energy in the region. More reforms are expected to go through to support this effort of providing clean energy to its people.

Colorado signed 56 clean energy efficiency bills into law during Governor Ritter's term. One of the laws permits city residents to buy and install solar panels and wind turbines on rooftops of common residential buildings, without the necessity of proving ownership of the property.

The local government of Colorado understands that investment in renewable energy is not only good for our planet, but also good for the local economy and the well being of its 5.2M citizens.
