Replacement Window Installation Made Easy

Share: People often replace their windows either to allow more lighting into a room
, to give more ventilation, or simply to make a room appear nicer. Some people don't want to go through the trouble installing new windows so they opt for replacement windows. Replacement windows are more affordable because they are designed to fit into the current window frame, thereby eliminating any additional installation costs. Also, replacement windows are hassle-free because people don't have to remove exterior stuccos and trims. Below is a step-by-step guide on how to install replacement windows.
First of all, one can't simply enter a store and purchase just any replacement window. Replacement windows come in a variety of materials like wood, vinyl or composite. Also, there are many styles available so you should choose which replacement window style and material would best suit the original frame, as well as the room you're installing it in.
Next, you have to measure the existing window's height and width. In measuring the width, you must run the tape from one jamb to another at the uppermost, middle and lowest point on the window. The height of the sill must be measured from the uppermost part of the window's left side, then to the middle, then lastly, the right side. To make sure that the replacement window is going to fit securely inside the frame, you must use the most conservative measurements for the height and width. These measurements are important, and you must have them when you go out to purchase your replacement windows.
Then you must ensure that the window frame you will install the replacement on is free of wood rot and is stable. Once you ensure the frame's suitability, remove its inside stops and set them aside, as they can still be used for the replacement window. Also get rid of the window sashes and any nails they are secured to. Clean the window frame by removing old caulk and nails.

Share: The replacement window can only be installed after all the necessary preparations. Once the window is clean, you can spread a small amount of caulk on the windowsill and on the outside window stop's inside edges.
Put the replacement window into the middle of the frame and determine if it is square and plumb by measuring it. Adjust it and secure it in place using a shim. Check the window from the outside. If there are gaps, it can be be covered using pieces of wood as inserts, which must be caulked if it goes against the window frame.
