Always remember to address the judge as "your honor". This shows respect and it is very important to be sure that you are showing him, or her, respect at all times.

Remember that you do not know what decisions the judge will make. Therefore, you need to continue to be on your best behavior and to continue making a good first impression. This really will help you in the end and these things may be taken into consideration when a final decision is made.

Keep in mind that if you do not have an attorney, the judge will not help you with your case. You can not expect him, or her, to tell you what you have done wrong with your paperwork or any other aspects of your case. This is unfair and it is not ethical. Also, the judge will not be able to discuss your case with you unless the other party is present. Again, this is the ethical and correct way to handle cases and the judge will follow that. Finally, the judge is going to make his decision after looking at all of the facts as well as any laws that pertain to your case. He or she can not show favoritism to you for any reason. It is all about the facts and the law so keep that in mind when you are preparing your case.
