Reverse Marketing - Free Leads and More Money for Your Business
Anyone that owns a small or home-based business knows all too well the importance of generating leads. Without leads, you have no prospects. Without prospects, you have no sales. Without sales, you have no revenue. And without revenue, you have no business. So if you are a business owner, you damn sure better be getting leads.
In this article, I want to share a few very simple techniques that any networking business owner can use to generate qualified leads on a daily basis. Actually, these leads will be contacting you. They already are. In most cases, several leads a day are delivered right to you and you don't even recognize them. You simply need to open your eyes to them and engage in, what i call, reverse marketing.
Reverse marketing is simply the process of identifying another business that is being promoted to you and reversing the dynamic so that your business is promoted to the other party. It's a lot easier than the previous sentence makes it sound. Here, let me give you a few examples of where you can find a ton of free leads and daily opportunities to employ reverse marketing.
1. Go check your mailbox. Almost every day you will find several leads just sitting in your mailbox. Most of them are disguised as postcards or letters from realtors, offers from financial planners, or coupons to local business, but make no mistake - these are quality leads. Anyone who is out marketing their business to you is a fantastic target for you to promote your business to. These people are entrepreneurs, just like you, and are typically open to sources of additional income. So call them - you might find your next superstar business partner.
2. Start answering telemarketing calls. Don't ignore the calls or rudely hang up on the unfortunate souls who have the difficult job of interrupting you at home to try to sell you something you probably don't want. Their just trying to put food on the table like everyone else, and the fact that they are making those phone calls should indicate that they are not afraid to do a little work or be told "no". They get abused over the phone all day and keep on dialing - that's the kind of character that you want on your team. Believe me.
3. Talk to the service people. How many times per week does a delivery guy show up on your doorstep? Talk to him. How frequently do find a phone technician, cable guy, satellite installer, carpet cleaner, plumber, handyman, pool cleaner, etc. in your house? Talk to them. Every get door-to-door sales people? Talk to them. Every go out to eat? Every fly on a plane? Every stay in a hotel? Ever ride in a taxi? Ever make a deposit at the bank.? Talk to them.
Each and every person that performs a service or is attempting to sell you a service represents a person that might be open to making some extra money in addition to the job they are currently doing. SO TALK TO THEM!!! If you see a sign on the side of the street - call the number and prospect that person. Driving down the street and you see a car with an advertisement on it - call the number and prospect that person. Checking out at the liquor store - talk to that person and prospect them. DO IT. What do you have to lose?
The bottom line is, the world is full of prospects. Many of those prospects are sending a reason for you to call them directly to your house. Some post that reason to call in very public places. Some people write that reason for you to call them all over their car. So open your eyes to it and start reverse marketing. It sure as hell beats cold-calling, and you might be surprised at the results you get.
