Revised Form I-90, Application To Replace Permanent Resident Card

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has recently made an announcement

that it has revised the Form I-90, Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card. The revised version is available on the USCIS website. More user-friendly features are incorporated into the revised version, which is dated 08/10/09. Applicants can either electronically file the Form I-90 or mail it to the USCIS Phoenix Lockbox facility.

Generally, an individual can file Form I-90 to apply for replacement of permanent resident card. A conditional resident whose status is about to expire cannot use this application to request for replacement. Instead, Form I-751 can be filed by an applicant who received conditional resident status through marriage to a U.S. citizen.

The previous versions of Form I-90 will be accepted by USCIS until July 28, 2010 at the end of which the previous version applications will be rejected. USCIS will send back all the incorrectly filed forms to the applicants with a note directing them to use the revised version to re-file.

Form G-1145, E-Notification of Application/Petition Acceptance is required to be completed and attached to the first page of the application, if the applicant wants to be alerted of the application status through an email and/or text message.

Based on the reason for the request, the filing fee for Form I-90 varies. The applicant will be charged $370 (base application fee of $290 + biometric fee of $80) in situations like the permanent resident card is stolen, mutilated or lost, any biographic information has been altered, the card is about to expire, or the status has been changed automatically to permanent resident.

The base fee will not be charged to an applicant who is applying for replacement since he/she has reached his/ her 14th birthday from the issue of the permanent resident card. The applicant will only be charged $80.
