"I can choose any nose that I like."

This is probably one of the most common misconceptions about rhinoplasty. Some people think that they choose a nose that they like off a menu and have it placed on their face. You cant just select the nose of your favorite actress and expect to be able to have surgery to get that exact same nose. Rhinoplasty does not work like that. Honestly, it is a good thing that it doesnt.

Not every nose is going to look great on every face, and there are many factors to consider when deciding what shape and size nose is best for you. A skilled plastic surgeon will be able to help you make a decision about those things.

"All rhinoplasty surgeons are the same. "

Of all of the misconceptions out there, this one may be the most dangerous. The reason is that a good, properly qualified surgeon will help to dispel all of the other misconceptions. If you choose a substandard surgeon, however, there is no telling what he may let you believe.

Any medical doctor can legally perform cosmetic procedures. What many people do not realize is many of those doctors have had no specialized training in such surgery. They are not board certified and may lack the skill needed to do the best job.

When you are looking for a surgeon, you should check all of his qualifications. Make sure that he is allowed to perform cosmetic procedures at local hospitals as they usually will only allow doctors who are fully certified to do so.

"Its just a minor procedure."

While it is true that the number of rhinoplasty procedures performed each year continues to rise, it is still a major surgery. You will need to be under a general anesthesia and there is the possibility of a myriad of complications including prolonged swelling, infections and others. That is not to say the procedure is not safe when performed by a qualified surgeon, but you must know all of the risks involved when making a decision about whether or not to have the surgery.
