Role Of Industrial Balancing Equipment

Balancing machines are measuring tools that are used as a form of preventive maintenance

by balancing rotating machine parts such as rotors in disc drives and electric motors. They minimize noise, vibrations and wear of bearings to ensure the product has a long life span and no problems in functioning. These functions of balancing equipment actually prevent wear out of mechanical parts that helps to save operational costs. Industries normally bolt this machine to the platform which can then be rotated by a belt- or end-drive to check if their equipment is functioning to its full potential. The vibration is detected by sensors and this information can be used to evaluate the ineffectiveness of the part. Using this form of test system, you can also determine how to repair the equipment.

Most people may think that balancing is only used in car wheels, but it actually have other more applications such as in industrial equipment that make use of rotating parts. Balancing car wheel is important as it can pose as a danger to the driver if the car is moving too fast and the wheels are not balanced. Excessive vibrations can cause the wheels to judder and wear off before its actual life span and in some extreme cases the rotor itself may disintegrate from the system. By balancing rotating machine parts such as motors and blowers, balancing equipment are able to minimize vibration and noise. In electrical motors, the rotors would normally revolve around its central axis. Centrifugal force, noise and vibration occur in the rotating body if the mass is not distributed evenly.

Balancing machines can be classified into two groups; hard and soft-bearings. The difference between these two systems actually lies in the suspensions and not the bearings. Hard-bearings balance at a frequency that is lower than the oscillation frequency of the suspension. In soft-bearings, balancing is done at a higher frequency. Both machine types have their own advantages and disadvantages. Being able to handle pieces that have great varying weights makes hard-bearing machines more versatile. Unlike soft-bearing machines, they only require five geometric dimensions into the measuring unit for them to function. This allows these machines to function well for low and middle size repair workshops and production.

On the other hand, soft-bearing machines require each rotor to be calibrated individually which is more time consuming. These machines are not as versatile as hard-bearings regarding the weight that they can balance. However, they are preferred when it comes to production with high volume as well as high-precision balancing tasks.

Both machine types can be automated to remove weights automatically but despite this, hard-bearing machines are still preferred due to the fact that they are more reliable. It is essential for manufacturers to spend on balancing equipment if they want to have smooth operations with low financial losses due to hiccups caused by unbalanced machinery.
