. It is important to maintain the greenhouse a comfortable and refreshing place for the plants to enjoy on the summer days. By maintaining a proper balance of shading, ventilation and humidity, the greenhouse can be kept cool.

Even though shading and ventilation prevent the greenhouse from seriously overheating, what actually cools the greenhouse would be the evaporation of the moisture inside the place. Evaporating water has the capability to absorb heat like a sponge since heat is needed when water changes from a liquid to a gas. Good air circulation from misting systems increases the speed of evaporation.

There are certain factors like the amount of ventilation and shading, local climate and daily weather changes that determine the amount of moisture necessary to cool the greenhouse. Generally one to two gallons per hour for each 10 square feet of floor area will provide enough moisture. Here comes the role of a good misting system that would disperse the water evenly around the greenhouse in a fine mist without wetting the plants.

The mist line systems are used to spray a very fine mist of water. Depending upon the size of the nozzle types, the size of the droplets may vary. Also the spacing of the nozzles and operating pressure would cause variations in the size of the mist. There are a number of applications for the misting systems and cooling the greenhouse is just one among the uses. They are used in livestock cooling, controlling static, dust suppression and also for concrete curing. The main part of the misting systems would be pumps that are designed for continuous or intermittent duty. The intermittent pumps would sprinkle the water for about five minutes or so and resume sparkling after a gap of one minute in between the process.

Usually misting system that has been specifically designed for the greenhouses would have electronic timers that are programmed to mist about one to 14 times during a day and with misting ranging from about one to almost 24 minutes. There are some other misters that are programmed for shorter durations with increased timings. The misting nozzles which form the significant part of the misting systems are made out of plastic or brass. Sometimes the brass nozzles may react to some minerals present in water and becomes affected. But plastic nozzles are tolerant to all the elements and they even repel lime and some other deposits.

Most of the misting systems can be easily maintained and they come with pumps that are noise free. The misting nozzles can be easily cleaned using mild detergents. Misting systems can be placed close to the greenhouse and they would not affect the plans in any way.
