Role of Automation on ElectionsBefore, in order for us to get the results of our votes during election, we still have to wait for several days since they need to be manually counted first. But today, all we need is an automated counting machine and we can have the results in an instant. Over the years, as the technology advances, the elections system that we have progresses as well.
We cannot do all of this without what we call "automation". Automation is a process of automatically performing tasks to make work more convenient. The sole purpose of automation is to provide us comfort and convenience. But there are a lot of people who take advantage of this system. One example is during elections wherein people can easily manipulate the data or the results of the election just by simply changing the results of an automated counting machine.
An advantage of using automated system when it comes to election is we can save more time. Instead of spending a lot of time counting the votes manually, all we have to do now is to feed the automated counting machine with the ballot which contains the vote of every voter.
Automation on elections also has disadvantages. One of which is the maladministration of the system itself wherein the ones who has the authority can easily manipulate the data or information saved on the memory of the automated counting machine itself.
Another disadvantage is when the system fails. The whole election is being at stake if the system itself fails.
Automation is a good technology if it used in the right way. But if automation is used for bad purposes, it may no longer serve its purpose. Automated systems are invented to make our lives easier and more convenient and not the other way around.
