Role of Playschools in the Education System
A playschool though is explained as the first step to schooling, it has in the present age taken up a larger role than simply the starting point of an academic program. For this tiny life who is ready to begin his journey in formal education, a lot of change is brought in at as comfortable yet exciting a way as possible.
A playschool lays the academic foundation in language, literacy, and numeric skills. While basic reading, writing and counting is important to ready young ones for their elementary school, it comes secondary to the social and emotional development of children which is inseparable from cognitive development.
A good playschool emphasizes on emotional and social life skills which have a far reaching impact on building a peaceful and cooperative world. The importance of playing and working together, giving and sharing, listening and voicing, loving themselves and others, showing appreciation and respect, are key areas where a playschool can be very effective. To be prepared to function effectively in the adult world; children need to participate in lots of social situations. The presence of other children of the same approximate age helps in learning rules of social conduct. The "games with rules" concept teaches the children of the existence of rules and laws that we all must follow to function productively. Group activities at playschool are aimed at buildinga collaborative rather than a competitive attitude.
The most important role that play performs is to help children to be active, make choices and practice action. Playschools encourage the use of play coming from the child's own imagination and experiences. With fantasy play children of this age begin experimenting by taking on new roles. In an ever-more technological society, lots of practice with all forms of abstraction - time, space, symbols, words, and ideas - is essential.
By their very nature, children desire a kinesthetic experience of all new things. Playschool education helps kids to use their hands in making things. Constructive play is used to help children manipulate their environment to create thingseg playing with blocks and sand, constructing contraptions, art on walls, etc. Constructive play allows children to experiment with objects; find out combinations that work and don't work. Children who are comfortable manipulating objects and materials also become good at manipulating words, ideas and concepts.
If play is the work of the child, toys are the tools. Toys can teach students to understand how to build muscle control and strength, solve problems, grasp new ideas, use their imagination.Today when children are spending much of their time being passively entertained by the keyboard or control pad on an electronic device, play schools provide young children with ample opportunities to develop physically, and motor play instills this disposition toward physical activity in young children. Playschools seek parental cooperation in allowing unstructured creative play as against minimal interactive opportunities offered by the electronic media. Parents are often oriented so that they understand the play needs of their child and provide an environment to meet those needs.
Playschools can instill very important habits of hygiene like hand washing to prevent diseases, teeth brushing, washroom manners, thus promoting healthy life. Story-telling, videos and drama and skit put together by the kids with their teacher's guidance, help in learning these habits in a fun way. At least once a year sports day and an appreciation day for children to show case what they have learned is organized by playschools to improve their self-esteem and encourage them to be successful learners.
In short a playschool offering a high quality programbecomes essential as these children go on to attain higher levels of success in school, greater achievement motivation, higher vocation aspirations, and higher employments ratesthus preparing them well to enter the future workforce.
