If you want to know what 2.5 seconds is, take your pencil and drop it. It's about like that. It's fast! Without question, 16 cylinders is a higher performance level than eight.

Here"s how the 16 cylinders equation works for business owners:

Body (3) + Mind (3) + Heart (5) + Spirit (5) = 16 cylinders. Today I"d like to talk to you about how to get your business to be at the highest performance it can be. Are you running on eight cylinders? Or maybe even just six? What would it look like if you were running your business on sixteen cylinders? How would that impact your ability to get more business and make your business profitable?

Body (3 Cylinders)

The body represents the things that you do physically. What are the activities you do? What are the actions you take? What do you spend your time on? What are the two most productive activities you can do to get more business and make your business profitable? Do those! That's important! What kind of business help do you need to make sure you"re doing the right things and doing them right (efficiently and effectively)?

Mind (3 Cylinders)

The mind is about your mental focus. What are you thinking about? Do you focus on what can be done, or are you consumed by the problems? Do you think about the potential you can achieve or do you worry about what's happened in the past? I recommend Napoleon Hill"s book on mindset, Think and Grow Rich. He teaches that whatever you believe, you can achieve. If you believe you can get more clients and triple your profits this year, guess what? You can! But if you decide in your mind that you can"t, guess what? You"re also right.

It"s important to have a resourceful mindset. That means when there's a challenge, you turn it into an opportunity. Understand the challenge and have a resourceful mindset to create opportunities in your business. What you must understand is that any challenge you face, other people in your industry are having the exact same challenge. And if they are not resourceful about it, what is the outcome? Mediocre results. You create an opportunity from it, that's how you become absolutely stellar.

Heart (5 Cylinders)

One of the most powerful forces in the world is the heart. Think of businesses that have been extremely successful. Think of a company like Microsoft, or Apple. Those companies have a passion, someone there is committed at their heart to what's going on. And they have the heart that nothing is going to stop them. The heart is connected to the mind in the form of persistence. Whatever you set your mind to, you focus on and don't quit. That is what it means to have heart and passion.

Spirit (5 Cylinders)

Then there's spirit. This is your purpose. What are you absolutely committed to in your spirit, no matter what? And what's your purpose in doing that? Is your purpose something that you will not back down from under any circumstances? Is that purpose so important to you that you have 100% commitment? Modeling your purpose and your commitment is how you get to 100% commitment from your team to work toward your vision, and that's how you build a great business.

If you work on just the body and the mind, that's six cylinders. Six cylinders are pretty good. But if you're working on just six cylinders, then you"re only operating at a manager level. That's just mediocre, you"re just getting by. There are businesses that are happy getting two percent, three percent, six percent growth per year. But taking a business from $50,000 profit to $200,000 profit in one year is more than managing, that's leading. When you lead your business, you can achieve great things. You can get many more clients, and make your business very profitable. And it"s not just about having discipline. If you want high-performance at a world-class level, at the best level you can possibly be, it's going to take 16 cylinders.
