Running Out Of Storage With Modern Housing

Technology is improving, Toshiba have recently announced that they have managed to get 320GB of data storage on to a 1.8 inch drive

. An amazing feat especially when you consider that less than twenty years ago we could only fit 1.4MB of data on to a floppy disk which was slightly wider and hard disk resembled something closer to today external hard disks.

Technology has helped to make things smaller and smaller and yet the one thing that isn't getting smaller and smaller is the amount of clutter that we build up. Every birthday that passes, every Christmas that comes and goes, we accumulate more items that we don't necessarily want but we are forced to place into storage.

Eventually some of these items we are able to offload either through selling on eBay or other online auction sites, car boot sales or online market boards that helps to generate extra revenue for our other pursuits in our busy lives. However, there are a lot of items that we are unable to find storage. These items are thrown into the back of the nearest cupboard or box and forgotten about until one day we decide to have a clear out and find these items still wrapped in their protective casing.

One idea to alleviate the storage space situation would be to keep unwanted items in a box and then use them at times of the year when it is the holidays, maybe hand out some of the smaller gifts for Halloween or utilise this source of items as a backup for forgotten birthdays. The only thing you need to be aware of is that you don't send the item back to the originator as they might find that slightly offensive.

Not only is this a good way to save money in the current credit crisis, but it also helps towards clearing some space around the house that you wouldn't otherwise have. When it comes to storage of items there appears to be two clear groups of people, you are either someone who stores every item for memories or someone who clears out their cupboards regularly.

The next generation are going to have to be much more aware when it come to storing items, a lot of the new build houses are tiny in comparison to their contemporary houses, people are tending to live in flats or apartments that have no spare space. There is no space in modern life for the person who likes to store junk, but maybe that's a good thing.
