Our pets are part of the family, in many cases they are the ones who run the show. We love them and they love us back unconditionally. Our job is to keep them fed, healthy, happy and safe. Some attention, good food, water and some exercise (which does us a lot of good too) will take care of most of their needs however when it comes to their safety some things may get overlooked. If your dog is prone to scratching and chewing some stained wood materials that splinter, crack and will give way to their aggressive tactics. The stain itself can't be good for any dog but trying to digest wood, now that not 'good fiber' at all! Certain woods contain oils that can upset stomachs or even cause allergic reactions. Some of the dog houses are manufactured with very soft woods making them not only easy to chew, but not very tough in some North American climates. Plastic on the other hand can make things far too hot inside, will fade in the sun and even become dried and brittle. Perhaps a more durable composite material or engineered wood would be a better option if you feel these will be issues with your pet and your weather.

Once through the wood, they are into the insulation. Better hope it's not fiberglass, because again, that stuff cannot be good going through your pet's digestive system. Foam offers outstanding properties for insulated dog houses, including a sound barrier and the fact that it is free of CFC's and anything that would irritate your dog. It may not be their first choice for dinner but, its safe for them should they miraculously get through to this layer.

Assembly using screws reduces risks of exposed sharp ends from nails, top or bottom. The screw together system means it can also be disassembled to move or clean much easier as well. It all lends itself to a clean, safe and happy place for your pet. When investing in an insulated dog house please make sure you read all the fine print to guarantee your pets safety.
