An international driving permit allows you to drive your personal vehicle in another country. Your valid US driver's license is required with the international driving permit.

The American Automobile Association and the National Automobile Club are the two private entities authorized by the Department of State to issue international driving permits in the US.

The United Nations does not issue international driving permits.

The international driving permit is a translation not a license. It requires your own country license to be carried with it, in order to be legal.

The international driving permit may not be issued more than six months before the desired date of travel.

You will need to bring your valid driver's license along with two passport size photographs, when you fill out the application. There is a $15 fee for the application process.

The international driving permit is valid in more than 150 countries and translated in 10 international languages.

The international driving permit expires 1 year after the issue date.

You must be at least 18 years old to obtain an international driving permit.

You can get a copy of the foreign country's driving laws from the country's embassy in the US, the country's tourism office in the US or from a car rental company.
