Garden windows are great things for many people

, especially when you don't have any other garden space. They provide a great place to attractively grow plants, and especially in a kitchen, they could be a very convenient place to grow herbs so you have them to hand when cooking. They also let in more light, which is a good thing for any room.

However, they also, like anything, have their downfalls and you need to bear a few things in mind when you install them in your home.

It's not just with real estate that location is of paramount importance. You should be careful with the location of your garden windows. They are quite bulky and angular, protruding quite a way out, and if their frames are installed in a place where lots of people will walk by, the chances are that you will bump into them and that could lead to a nasty accident. This may be a particular problem for children and maybe even pets who are just the right height to hurt themselves on the garden windows.

Easy to Fix

Thankfully, this problem has an easy solution. Just placing something under the garden window, like plants or a garden ornament, will stop people from trying to walk under the window.

Safety options

If it's not possible to put something under your garden window, or it would not look right, you have other options to increase the safety. Use some rubber tubing or something similar to round off the edges at the bottom of the garden window.

The safety concerns with garden windows with children need not be an insurmountable problem that stops you benefiting from such a great feature. You just need to think ahead, be a bit creative, and the solution should be easy to find.
