Salou is a tourist reserve in the province of Catalonia. It is also known as the most attractive city of the Coast Daurada. However, it is most popular due to the theme park Port Aventura made by Universal Studios and the water parkCosta Caribbean.Salou used to be a Roman and Greek port in the ancient times. Later it was under the Moors as many other parts of Spain. However, in the sixteenth century it was occupied by pirates. Since it was declared as a dangerous area, the archbishop made a tower for defense. The tower is called Torre Vella. In the eighteenth century the city was again attractive due to the new railway station.

Tourist attractions

Salou is a great place for a family vacation. It has almost all tourist facilities. It has a long beach which is cut by numerous coves. In the peak season, city beaches get crowded, however you can still find some tranquil cove. The city beach offers a wide range of activities. You and your family can enjoy the different boat rides, banana rides, etc. There is even a go-kart track.Along the beach is placed the promenade with many shops, bars and restaurants.If you like museums, then you can enjoy the Taragona's museum that offers a journey to ancient civilizations.There is even a traditional Spanish market where you can feel the true Mediterranean spirit. The city is rich in souvenir shops as well.

Port Aventura

The biggest attraction in this region is the amusement park Port Aventura, which was opened in 1995 by "Universal Studios" - the famous film company from the U.S.

The park has 5 parts: Mediterranean, Polynesia, China, Mexico and the Wild West.

Each of these parts is another story, and each of them is done with so many details to convince you that you are in some distant country and region.

Due to its size, the park has a railway.When you move from one part to another, you will notice that everything changes. Furthermore, buildings, bridges, plants, stones, lamps, benches and all that is visible changes and above all background music changes as well.Each part has a size of at least of 1 hectare.The park normally has 134 attractions, among which 65 are restaurants and numerous shops with souvenirs, food, drinks, photos with attractions, clothing....etc.

The biggest attraction isDragon Khan. Since it is a really huge roller coaster, you will notice it even from the highway. Other amazing coasters are Tutuki, Furioso Baco(the fastest roller coaster in Europe), Huracan Condor,etc.One should not forget theTemplo del Fuego(house of fear) orSea Odyssey and other numerous musical and theatrical performances.
