.A discussion on a repair with an actual Santee Collision Center customer.
A female customer came in with a van with a back bumper that has a huge dent in the right corner.
Sy, one of Santee Collisions technicians explained to the customer "to do this repair, with the amount of damage that's on it, it's going to be important to take the entire bumper off and send it in for reconditioning"
"What's reconditioning?" asked the customer.
"The bumper is actually set into a hot tub so it can get to a temperature that will allow a repair technician to restore the correct angles. Then, once the plastic has all been restored to the correct angles, it's pulled back out, re-sanded, re-coated and brought back in for refinishing and that would allow us to do the correct repair on the bumper . At that point, we'll go ahead and color match the color, spray out some test panels to make sure that it's accurate to the van side, so that way when you do put the bumper back on the vehicle it doesn't have a variation and the color will be correct. Then once everything's all done, we'll get the vehicle polished out and washed up and delivered ".
"Is it a pretty standard repair or is it really complicated?" asked the customer.
"It's pretty standard" replied Sy, "on a bumper like this it's pretty standard, if there was any more damage, with the bumper either being torn or creased down the side, then it would most likely qualify for a replacement, but with this much damage, it's still definitely repairable."
