. Here are some of the popular attractions to check out in the area.

Fisherman's Wharf is probably the Bay area's most popular destination as it is known for its historic waterfront, delicious seafood, spectacular sights and unique shopping. It offers a wide array of things to do for absolutely everyone.

Pier 39 is the area's number one attraction which provides visitors with postcard views of Alcatraz, the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges, the San Francisco Bay and the City skyline. Visitors can enjoy shopping, entertainment, dining and more.

Ghirardelli Square delights visitors with its mix of retailers, including the famous Ghirardelli Ice Cream Shop. Enjoy waterfront shopping and dining, as well as family events at this popular destination located on the west side of Fisherman's Wharf.


The Golden Gate Bridge is a must see as it is the internationally recognized symbol of San Francisco which was completed in 1937. This bridge spans the opening of the Bay into the Pacific Ocean.

Visitors can walk, drive or bike across the bridge. There is also a gift center located on the southeast side of the bridge.

Alcatraz is one of the world's most legendary prisons. It is now a historic site open for tours.

The island is located 1.5 miles offshore from San Francisco. Visitors can reach the island by ferry ride from Pier 33 near Fisherman's Wharf; they also have the option of taking a guided tour or an audio tour as well as visiting the beautiful gardens for the guests to enjoy.

Union Square is the central shopping, hotel and theater district of San Francisco. This one block plaza and nearby area is one of the largest collections of department stores, upscale boutiques, tourist trinket shops, art galleries, restaurants and salons in the Western United States.

The largest Chinatown outside of Asia and the oldest in North America is also located in the city. Established in the 1840s, this community offers authentic shops, restaurants and attractions.

Lombard Street is considered the most crooked street in the world and is best known for the one way section on Russian Hill which has eight sharp switchbacks. It is an amazing site to see as the street is paved with bricks and passes many beautiful Victorian mansions.

The Coit Tower is one of the city's most recognizable landmarks as well. This 210 foot high tower sits atop Telegraph Hill in the North Beach neighborhood.

It offers majestic views of the area. The interior of the tower is covered with 19 murals, most fo which are open to the public for free.

The Exploratorium is housed within the walls of San Francisco's Palace of Fine Arts, and is a collage of over 650 science, art and human perception exhibits. This establishment is a leader in the movement to promote the museum as an educational center.

The Golden Gate Park is a huge park with plenty of things to do within its boundaries including a conservatory of flowers, an art museum and a Japanese tea garden. Visitors may also rent a paddle boat or a rowboat to use on Stow Lake; children are also sure to enjoy the playground which features a carousel that was built in 1912.

The Aquarium of ht eBay is a truly unique educational facility dedicated to the Bay and its surrounding waters. The self guided journey begins with a decent into a 707,000 gallon aquarium.

Visitors can then enter 300 feet of clear acrylic tunnels. A staff of expert naturalists is on hand to answer questions and encourage exploration of this mysterious world beneath the surface of the Bay.

Visitors then finish with a hands on meeting with sea stars, urchins and sharks. Do not miss out on this exciting exploration of the underwater world.


Also, be sure not to miss out on the Boudin at the Wharf. This is a famous bakery known for making the original San Francisco sourdough bread.

It offers a self guided tour of the museum and bakery. Visitors may also take a break and enjoy eating in the bakery and cafe or the Boudin's full service restaurant, Bistro Boudin.

The Urban Trek USA is also a unique sightseeing and walking tour of San Francisco. Here, you can enjoy the sites and learn information from your guide; it offers half day and full day tours of the city for all ages.
