Sap Business One As Low Priced Erp With Premium Functionality

Sometimes you can hear false opinion that SAP is software for large corporations

and in the case of small business we have to pick something like Peach Tree or QuickBooks. In this small publication written in FAQ style we would like to talk about SAP Business One implementation in small company with ambitions for growth. Lets begin:

Q. We know that small businesses across the street are mostly on QuickBooks or Sage Peach Tree. Now we are learning that SAP B1 is another option. Would you mind explain the advantages of SAP?

A. We would like to say very good words about QuickBooks or similar packages. If you plan to keep your small business as family owned and operated and do not plan to grow then this is probably all you need. However if you plan or expect rapid growth and plan to integrate or customize business processes then you need something that gives you flexibility. Lets assume that now you have only two users but in the future you need fifteen then you can start with Starter Package and later on convert you license level to regular. Everything should work and no data conversion or personnel retraining. Regular SB1 is targeted as lower mid-market or midmarket ERP, MRP and accounting software. It is open to customizations, integrations and professional managerial reporting

Q. I have heard that one professional user license cost up to three thousand dollars. I am small business owner and I am not ready to spend so much money on accounting software

A. In your situation there is no need to purchase regular version. Instead consider so-called starter package with reduced functionality and price. When you come to the point where you need more than five users then you can switch to regular licenses

Q. In our case we need complex reporting, such as project profitability, customer statement and sales commission. What is your opinion?

A. This software is hosted in Microsoft SQL Server. It is not a challenge to design reporting in Crystal with SQL Views and Stored Procedures as the base. You can review table structure in Software Development Kit. In our opinion professional SQL platform is more open comparing to proprietary database often associated with cheap out of the shelf packages

Q. We are small company but we are processing large volume of POS transactions daily. We need integration as it doesnt make sense for us to rekey in these documents

A. There are several options in your disposition. First one is ODBC connection to your POS database and ongoing import via Data Transfer Workbench. If you prefer real time import then you can program it in Microsoft Visual Studio with code samples (C#, VB) from SDK. We need to mention that SDK is not available for Starter Package. Business One gives you advantage of SQL Server which is unlimited in data storage and processing

Q. We are food distributor with strong connections to Mexico and South America. Is it Spanish language friendly?

A. Yes as you can have interface in Spanish. Plus if you have subsidiary in Mexico then you should know that it is localized across Americas

Q. We are small internet ecommerce portal. We need integration with ecommerce shopping cart

A. There are add-ons integrating such popular ecommerce shopping carts as Magento for example
