Corporate ERP selection might be complicated project especially if you work in IT department of multinational company
. Lets try to form this paper as questions session and we will try to walk you through the possible scenarios and recommend homework direction. We do not pretend to provide deep technical details as our audience should be represented by company owners and IT directors:
Q. We are reasonably small enterprise and we are at the point to open subsidiary in Brazil. In the United States we have Microsoft Dynamics GP and we have enough licenses to share with the users in Sao Paulo office. We would like just to open GP via Citrix to our foreign users
A. The idea might look like natural one. However you should be aware that GP is not available in Brazilian Portuguese. We have published in the past several recommendations on how to translate client interface either in Modifier or in Dexterity. This is doable as the language is ASCII one byte standard compliant. But what should you do about such requirement as SPED or Public Digital Bookkeeping? Microsoft recommends AX in Brazil. Former Axapta is not for somebody who is seeking for budget solution
Q. We realized that our domestic accounting system is not localized in the country where we are planning to open the office. Is it a show stopper and should we look for something else?
A. It depends on the country. In large regional powers such as Russia, India, China or Brazil you should expect strict regulation. In this case it is better idea to pick localized ERP. Smaller countries might be favoring foreign investment openness and sticking to international GAAP or Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
Q. We realized that Business One is available in many countries and is reasonably priced mid-market and small business solution. We are open to switch from our old accounting package. But is it possible to scale it up a little bit? Our concern is small business accounting image
A. In the sense of number of named users you can thing about two hundred as reasonable limitation. On the other hand it has MS SQL Server database meaning that you can deploy such powerful technologies as SQL clustering. Axapta is also backed by SQL Server. Small Business ERP starter packages offered at symbolic price are often hosted in proprietary DB (to slash the price)
Q. We have heard about Unicode issues with popular accounting software in the USA. Does it support Unicode and such interfaces as Chinese?
A. Chinese hieroglyphs and Unicode are supported. You can switch the languages directly in settings or assign it to the named user
