When you are opening branch somewhere in South America or Southeast Asia you might be surprised about various forms and reports that you have to file every month or quarter. Such countries as Brazil for example require Public Digital Bookkeeping filing over the internet in XML format (it is known as SPED in Brazilian Portuguese abbreviation). Q. We heard that SAP B1 is low price competitor to such ERP applications as Microsoft Dynamics GP, AX and GreenTree. Also we heard the news about B1 interfaces in Chinese, Brazilian, Russian and in other languages. We are looking for accounting software for our office in Sao Paulo region (Campinas). Could you compare Microsoft Dynamics AX and SB1 in brief?

A. In Brazil Business One successfully incorporated such requirements as SPED (Public Digital Bookkeeping System) as well as taxes: NCM, ICMS and others. We cannot stay behind rumors but we heard that Dynamics AX stays behind and working on SPED options. Price tag is definitely lower for SAP BO. As far we know GreenTree ERP software is popular in New Zealand, Australia and Europe. Here in the United States as far as we know it has several customers. We have not heard about GreenTree availability in Sao Paulo

Q. In our case we have Axapta licenses and we would like to open AX for our office in Moscow. Our concern however is implementation cost comparing to something that could be categorized as small business accounting

A. There are various nuances in Russia related to government reporting. The best job seems to be done by 1S Bukhgalteria (local ERP software). Whatever you plan to implement we recommend you to consult with local CPA people. Business One has advantage of being implemented rapidly while Axapta often requires customization and modification. Foreign subsidiary is typically smaller and its ERP system should be low profile one

Q. We are a bit out of synch in this discussion. Our direction is manufacturing outsourcing to China. Here in US (Chicago) we are on Dynamics GP (Great Plains). But we figured out that it is not available in Chinese even if some add-ons (such as NJStar) enable Chinese hieroglyphs data entry. What would be your recommendations?

A. Dynamics GP is good option in Pacific basin and smaller countries in Southeast Asia (Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore) where English language is in use in business transactions. GP Dexterity doesnt support Unicode and its interface is not available in Chinese. We know that SAP Business One is available in Chinese. We have seen scenarios where GP was deployed as headquarters Corporate ERP and SAP B1 as foreign subsidiary accounting platform. Integration was implemented in the form of exporting GL entries from SAP and importing to Great Plains via Integration Manager. Consolidated Balance Sheet and P&L were designed in FRx (Reporting Tree)

Q. SAP B1 seems to be winning option but we are not sure about consolidated P&L and if it handles multicurrency

A. In versions 8.82 and 9.0 there is branch consolidation functionality. GL and other modules transactions are moved to so-called consolidated company where you can run BS and P&L generic SAP B1 reports
