Q. Our original reseller did wonderful job in sales cycle, executive demos, data migration and user training. A. There are several sub-questions here. Lets begin with possible reasons why your consulting partner was not excited about the opportunity. These people are brick and mortar local reseller and they do their money on initial software selling and generic implementation. Customization projects are not profitable for them as they might need something like that in one customer out of ten. SAP B1 is flexible in the sense of adding user defined fields to existing core tables as well as adding new user defined tables. User interface is created automatically by application. Your case requires more as you expect Web Service to be created in Microsoft Visual Studio with Software Development Kit libraries and code samples. When you need something like that it is recommended to check references to validate if developer is experienced. It is not necessary the case that programmer experienced in C# or VB can turn around over the night and begin coding SDK. ERP systems have complex table structure and business logic. Developer should be experienced in both: programming and SAP BO architecture

Q. In our situation we hired Crystal Report designer to create Sales Commission report based on custom tables. Consultant was very friendly and we liked him first couple of week. When report was placed into production we realized that there are duplicate rows and summary is often incorrect. In other words we cant trust this report. Could you give us your opinion here?

A. Crystal is good design tool and perfect for graphical parts and fonts. However data selection in the case where you have to pull it and join together more than five tables should be done in SQL stored procedure or view. We also had several projects where design was not solid and developer used CR wizard in her learning curve. When data pulling job is tested in stored procedure then CR cosmetic is easy to finish the job

Q. We decided to program integration with Sales application in-house as our IT department has SQL DBA and he was enthusiastic to write SQL Stored Procedures. DBA has at least ten years of experience coding Transact SQL. We shared his enthusiasm and later one figured out that data is coming but when we are opening documents they are incorrect. What is wrong here?

A. SAP B1 has three tiers architecture with application server. If you need to design custom integration the appropriate way is to do it in SDK or professional third party instruments (iBolt, Scribe, etc.). When you do it with Software Development Kit you imitate user login and document creation as it would happen in client interface with complete business logic validation. SQL is powerful but it doesnt validate application logic

Q. We have in-house developed ecommerce store with shopping cart in Linux, PHP and MySQL DB platform. We hired SQL developer to compile integration in the form of AR/Invoice with payment (credit card). We are over budget at this point (150 hours) and it doesnt seem to be in its completion phase

A. Better idea is to have this integration programmed as Web Service. Job might be done in MS Visual Studio with SDK libraries
