Sap Business One Supporting Legacy Versions 2007 And 2005 Faq

If you are reading this document chances are high that you are still on outdated release 2007A or 2005A without active annual contract with SAP

. For easy reading we would like to compile it in FAQ style. Before we begin our questions and answers session we would like to note that this paper is not intended to be technical and if you are programmer please see our previous publications with technology orientation. If you are manager in IT department then it is probably good fit for you:

Q. Our original reseller told us that they do not support old version and left us without service. Is it really a challenge to consult 2005A?

A. It depends on the topic. If you need new user training or technology consulting then it is close to what you may expect at current releases 8.82 and 9.0. On the other hand if you need License Server move to new computer then it might be challenging as license is coded on MAC number of the motherboard

Q. We do not have budget to get reenrolled in annual contract and this is one of the reasons why we have to stick to 2007A in production. We are short of user licenses and we would like to program integration with our custom ecommerce shopping cart

A. It is difficult to get new user licenses when you do not have annual contract with SAP. Regarding ecommerce shopping cart it might be possible to discuss integration technology. It might be either SDK or Data Transfer Workbench. In our opinion however it is cheaper to upgrade to current release and then do Software Development Kit programming versus technology obsolescence dilemma

Q. We have at least three SAP B1 consulting firms in our area. They are not interested to help us. How do we get support?

A. Local consulting organizations are typically in the new software licenses selling and generic implementation mode. Older version support could be acquired from nationwide organizations who might be carrying tech support call centers and who are serving you via web sessions and phone conferences

Q. Our IT policy requires local vendor selection

A. We recommend you consider change your policy as local service might be not available at all

Q. We have customization programmed in MS Visual Studio C# with SDK libraries and we are on 2005A. We need to fix couple of bugs and add new functionality. Is it doable?

A. It is if you have source code

Q. Due to downsizing we would like to switch to something of lower profile accounting software in other words QuickBooks or Sage Peach Tree (not decided yet). We would like to move some of the records from Business One to new system. Is it possible to export several tables into text files?

A. Yes. We recommend you to switch in menu View System Information and then open the form bearing document type. You should be able to see table and field name when cursor is positioned over the field. Feel free to use SQL Management Studio to extract documents from the table

Q. Our former consultant created Project Profitability report in Crystal. It was not reliable from the beginning and we cannot trust this report. The problems are incorrect summaries and rows duplicates. Is it really a challenge to design custom managerial report in Crystal?

A. It depends on the complexity and consultant experience. If you have to join five tables and more, in our opinion it is better to create data pulling base in SQL View or Stored Procedure. Maybe your consultant tried to come through learning curve and created report in wizard. Feel free to appeal to second opinion
