Pointer #1: less junk-food snacks. If you live on your own, try getting some quick-easy to make, nutritious recipes. There truly are tons of them. If mom doesn't know any, the internet will give you a 101. If you live at home take advantage of the 3 meals on your table. Eating out is more expensive and not as nutritious (most of the time) than eating at home. This is not just a save money in college. Its a health tip too.

Pointer #2: Don't buy those brand new books. Let that kid with trust fund do that. Ask a senior if they want to sell you one of their books. They'll probably jump at the opportunity to get rid of that book and get some money at the same time. And when you're done it, just get your money back. You sell it to the next batch. If you can't find a willing seller in school, you just search the used book store or books on amazon and ebay.

Pointer #3: Living options. If you can live at home and it isn't a thousand million miles away, it might be the financially smarter option. Lets say however, you're a foreign student or are from another state. Living at home just isn't practical. Well, get a roomy, share your room. Don't get a splendid apartment all for you.
