Saving Money With Alternative Ink Cartridges
The modern age has led to almost everyone in the Western world having a computer
and while there are a great many peripherals that people choose to buy for them, the printer is by far the most ubiquitous. However, it wasn't that many years ago that people would find it cheaper to simply buy a new printer than replace the ink cartridges; cartridges were expensive - especially manufacturer-branded ones - and in many cases the cost of their replacements was prohibitive. People would either replace their printer or print so rarely that their ink would last for years.
Nowadays, there's no need for this; although printers can be purchased for a very low price, the cost of ink cartridges has fallen, especially since the advent of compatible models. Exactly what they sound like, compatible cartridges are units which will work with your printer but are not built by the manufacturer of the printer. This will typically mean just as good a function, but for a lower price than you would typically pay for an official cartridge.
Indeed, there are many cases where people have found that they have had better performance from compatible ink cartridges; though they are typically cheaper, they will often be completely filled, where many users have reported that official ones are often filled up to 35% below capacity, meaning that the less expensive units will typically last longer than the more expensive equivalent.
Availability is also an advantage of compatible ink cartridges; while official models tend to require a manufacturer's license to distribute, compatibles are often available from supermarkets under their own brand, often making them even cheaper and more readily available. There are also refill kits and recycled units available on the market now, which are even cheaper and often perform to just as high a standard, though refilling cartridges can be a messy process.
With all the options available for saving money on ink cartridges now, the days of replacing the printer rather than the ink or paying through the nose for official units, are well and truly behind us. Whether you opt for compatible units, the eco-friendly recycled option or would rather brave the potentially messy refilling process, there are plenty of ways for users to save money on their printing rather than paying the premium on the official models.
Even if you do choose to opt for the official option on your printer ink, the price has dropped so much in the face of this competition that although they are the more expensive choice, they still aren't as expensive as they were in years past.
