Earlier, agricultural science would involve the study of identifying and quantifying the different forms of agriculture that are possible. But, in the present times, the concern has basically shifted to the study of the organic and industrial agriculture.

In the field of agricultural sciences; research and development is basically done in fields like production technicalities, turning of primary products to consumer goods, preventing the negative environmental effects, theoretical production ecology, traditional agricultural system and the global demand and production of food. It would not be wrong to mention agricultural science as a localized form of science. The focus strongly lies on the local areas.

Agricultural science deals with soil properties and climatic conditions in very close quarters. Agriculture relies strongly on both these aspects of nature. On these will depend the technique of irrigation and, hence, the quality of produce. So, it is very essential that a very detailed study of these is carried out. And along with that a proper deduction of which condition is favorable for which specific type of agriculture is also of utmost importance.

The study of agriculture aims to solve a lot of global problems that have almost taken the shape of a threat to mankind in general. The research and study in this field aims to do away with all the biosafety problems that can affect the health of mankind and the environment in general. It intends to solve the global food problems so that no country, state or individual has to face food crisis. For this to happen; it is very essential that the natural resources are managed well and more and more concern is shown towards the system of food production and consumption.
