Search Engine Optimization: The Truth About Popular Keywords
One thing is for certain, and that is if you want to market online today you must learn how to promote whatever it is you're selling
. Search engine optimization should be your first consideration because unless you're ranking in the search engines people just aren't going to see your site in great numbers.
Of course there's other things you can do like posting videos on YouTube but you simply won't get the number of views that you will by way of an affective SEO policy. Go and check YouTube yourself and see that even popular videos can get only hundreds of views over the course of a few years.
So do a quick scan of keywords and phrases that you feel are relevant to your business prospect and what you'll find is that there are more than you realize. Some that you hadn't even thought of that you'll find listed on the screen when you're doing your basic research.
So there's a lot of keywords out there and it's easy to get transfixed on their numbers. The greater number of of monthly global searches that they get the better. It's easy too because after all you are looking for massive numbers of site visitors, so it only stands to reason that popular, high-volume keywords will deliver.
The problem you face with popular high search volume keywords and phrases though, is that you're for sure not the only one focusing on them. The more popular the keyword, the higher the global monthly search number, the more people are drawn to them for SEO, which in turn means a higher level of competition.
So one very effective strategy, is rather than focusing on the most popular keywords, is to search out and focus on less popular words and phrases. Now they for sure aren't going to have the massive search numbers of more popular keywords but they don't have a higher level of competition either.
What you need to remember here is that only 50% of browsers go beyond the first page that comes up when they type in a keyword or key phrase. Then of those that go on to page 2 only 30% of them move along to page 3. Then it gets even worse when it comes to page 4 and beyond.
So even if you do well in the competition for a popular keyword you have to do well enough to get you at least onto page 3. Even so, this will only leave you with a small percentage of browsers who enter the keyword or key phrase in their search engine.
With a less popular keyword where there's less competition, so you stand a far greater chance of making it onto page 2 and even page 1. Do the math. If you're getting 100% of the traffic on page 1, even if it's not a popular keyword you'll probably end up better off than you would if you had focused on a popular keyword.
