Seaside Beach House Rentals and the Mighty Hammock
Seaside Beach House Rentals - We all have our own version of the Caribbean dream. Palm trees swinging in the light ocean breeze. Pristine white beach so far as the eye is able to see. A beach bar behind you selling ice cold beer and rum cocktails sounds like paradise. Caribbean dreams are all about luxury, seaside beach rentals and organic
seafood with a coconut twist makes the mouth water. While all these elements make up the Carribbean dream, there is without a doubt one Caribbean "must have" that typically is so frequently overlooked the mighty hammock.
The history of the hammock is actually a long esteemed one, which, unfortunately for this article, does not begin in the Carribbean! The hammock was at first devised next door to the Carribbean by the Mayans over a thousand years ago. People hark on about the Mayan contribution to language and structural engineering, but I think all of that pales into nothing in contrast to the mighty hammock!

Thanks to the amazing trade routes all around the South and Central America the proliferation of the hammock was pretty wide spread and within a few hundred years it became 'the' ultimate leisure device. The undisputed worth of the hammock was so great that Columbus took huge amounts home to try and distract the Spanish King and Queen from his distinct lack of loot from the 'New World'.
From Columbus onwards, hammocks began to be used as the favored choice of the Spanish, French and British navies. Apparently is in fact through the slave operations of these three nations that the hammock began to spread in the Caribbean, although considering migration of races from the Caribbean from Central America this seems a little improbable. And so from this point onwards, our love affair with the Caribbean as well as the mighty hammock began. There was a resurgence of the interest in the hammock in the United States during the 1950s / 1960s, when hammocks became the epitome of laid back cool.
So, why do hammocks occupy their position as part of the Carribbean dream? I recently went to the north coast of Honduras, like the hammock, another overlooked gem in the Caribbean crown. I found a chilled out beach bar in Trujillo Bay, called Banana Beach (all very good, stress-free Carribbean feeling names!) and sat down with an ice cold beer. The resort bar has a large hammock in the bar and two hammocks between palm trees nearer the beach. I got my beer, went outside in the shade and sat in one of the hammocks, watching the sea and appreciating the slight breeze. Without the mighty hammock, my beach bar experience would have been good, but would not have had that small bit extra. The small bit extra that makes the Caribbean the most preferred destination on earth.
So the next time you are booking a vacation to the Caribbean, remember about the mighty hammock, you will be robbing yourself of an essential element of the Caribbean dream. Remember: seaside beach rentals, palm trees, gentle breeze, beautiful sun, ice cold beer, clear turquoise sea and the mighty hammock guarantees you a slice of paradise.
