Self defense products have been around for a long time

A shot in the face of pepper spray causes intense pain, swells the mucus membranes which makes breathing difficult and swells eye veins which causes the eyes to close. There is heavy tearing, coughing and choking. It is indeed nasty stuff.

2. Stun weapons-Stun guns high-voltage and low amperage to disable an attacker for 5 to 10 minutes. A short application of the stun device to an assailant causes a rapid work cycle which instantly depletes the attacker's blood sugar by converting it to lactic acid. That makes him unable able to produce energy for his muscles so they can't function properly. When the attackers neuro-muscular system is overwhelmed and controlled by the stun gun he loses balance.

3. Alarms-personal alarms are highly effective, noisemakers. A short blast of 130 dB alarm will draw attention to your potentially dangerous situation in a remote parking lot for example. They will scare the attacker away because of the attention the noise brings. These are particularly popular with women.
