Does hypnotism for weight loss really work? This article will attempt to answer this question.

I am sure you have heard people talking about losing weight through self hypnosis. It sounds like they just close their eyes, slip into a trance and never crave for fattening foods and snacks again. That's what many people think of when they hear about weight loss using hypnosis. But is that how it works? Or just a bunch of nonsense?

Well, this is not a bunch of BS or nonsense! However, it does not work the way most people think that it does.


Here is how it works...

Basically, hypnosis is a process of being guided into a relaxed state where you can access your subconscious mind and change the patterns and programming of your mind. For instance, a hypnotherapist will typically talk you into a relaxed, calm state of mind and body. You will probably be suggested to take some slow, deep breaths, relax all of your muscles and release all tension.

Once you are in a very relaxed state of mind, you are then usually guided to "go deeper" into your subconscious mind. It is as if your concious mind is now put asleep and you are now communicating with your subconcious mind. The hypnotherapist will then implants positive suggestions into your subconcious mind.

Of course this process can also be done by yourself (without a hypnotherapist) once you have learned to master it.

Now, what kind of positive suggestions are led into the subconcious mind?

Taken from the last self hypnosis for weight loss session I attented a couple of months ago, the typical positive affirmations we planted into our subconsious mind sounded like the following...

"Sweet and fattening foods no longer can tempt me! I would naturally crave for nutritious and healthy foods. I will always remember to drink at least 8 glasses of water daily. I love and respect my body and will always take care and nourish it with high-quality foods. I will always feel good about myself and carry myself with high self-esteem and confidence."

What I have described above is just an example. The exact content of each session varies according to the individuals who take part. Different people would go through different experience; that is why practice is key to weight loss success using self hypnosis.


After a few self hypnosis sessions, I could feel that the crave that I usually have for fattening foods is lessen. Don't underestimate the power of your subconcious mind, if you always inject positive suggestions into it, and with enough practice, it will make you become a better person.

So, to sum up, self hypnosis for weight loss does work if you are willing to make it work of course. Therefore, this will boil down to the individual who is willing to adopt this approach. Many people who use this method have experienced good results.
