Self Search Engine Optimization-- Is It Worth Doing Yourself?

I build websites for a wide variety of clients

, and every single client asks me to get their website placed highly within search engine results.

These people don't always understand that establishing a good search engine ranking goes beyond simply putting your website out there, and this is most critical when it comes to new websites. Fortunately, there are search engine experts available for hire which can aid you in optimizing your site for that high rank in the search engine results.

You should know that there are things you can do to your website yourself for free. Don't forget that you have countless techniques available to you as you try to elevate your website through the search engine rankings. Read on for some methods that anyone can attempt to employ by themselves.

The thing that search engines look for the most is content. This is because if your site is empty, the search engines aren't going to be able to crawl it very well.

As the owner of your own business, you should have enough understanding of what you do to be able to write intelligently about it, and in a manner that is comprehensible to everyone.

Since you have insider knowledge, you will understand things your readers may not. One technique that I prefer using is to think about what your target audience will most likely be looking for when they're on your site. To begin, make yourself a list containing five keywords or phrases.

Write one or two paragraphs about each of your keywords, defining them and explaining their relevance to your business. Soon you will have several paragraphs of material that can be apportioned throughout your site. Now, if I make a routine of adding new content in this manner every couple of weeks, or at least once a month, we'll find that the search engines are fining me more and more rapidly.

One other detail you shouldn't overlook is that you want to be always be putting up new and high quality content frequently. You should revisit older pages that you have written and edit the test to reflect newer information and trends.

When the search engine comes around to index your website again, this new information will help you attain a higher relevancy. Another way to get a search engine to notice and find your site is to get links to your site from other sites. For the words or phrases that would give your website a very desirable search ranking result, you should take some time to look for those terms on Google.

In many cases there are pages with directories of established businesses that you will be able to add your site's link to.

You may notice that if you perform a search tied to a specific location, many of the results have no particular relation to the keyword but they will be located nearby. Even though directories charge a fee to add your link to their directory, it's worth it because of the directory's high ranking, and chances are high that others will find your site through the directory, thus increasing the relevancy of your chosen keywords.

Certain directories don't cost anything and you might be able to dig up some of those, too. It's just going to require you to do a little legwork as far as the search goes.

The next thing to do, which is something that you could have also done initially, is to conduct some research. Pay attention to sites that are already at the top of the rankings on the keywords that you want to be associated with; what is it that they do to achieve this rank? You will notice similar ideas come up time and time again if you do a search for the phrase "Search Engine Optimization".

It's not too tough to execute effective SEO, but it takes time and it might seem bewildering at first. This is something that you can do by yourself if you have the time, but you can also hire someone else to handle it for you.
