Selfridges opens The World's Biggest Shoe Department
Last weekwe visited the newly opened Selfridges shoe department..
. It's BIG.
It's not only the size that matters but the merchandise, the decoration and most of all the fact that you can see most of the high-end shoe designer brands in their own boutiques and not (like in other department stores around the world) displayed on shared shelvingspaces. This makes customer service much more professional when dealing with a sales consultantthat is more of a brand specialist rather than somebody who has to attend to different brands and themes.
More than 5,000 pairs of shoes from 120 brands are on show in the department, representing designer names such as Roger Viver, Jimmy Chooand Christian LouBoutin as well as high street chains like River Island and All Saints. What's impressive is that they stock more than 40,000 pairs of shoes in their stock room in different sizes and shades to back up what's on display.
Sebastian Manes, Selfridges' director of accessories, said: "The Shoe Galleries will be a new and exciting way to experience shoe shopping within one huge space. The new department will fit perfectly into the essence of what Selfridges is - a place where everyone can find something extraordinary to buy, from the inexpensive to the luxurious."
From our point of view, this is exactly what Arab customers want... grandeur. When you visit the department you would be forced into a luxury mode being surrounded by glamorous decoration andart pieces created especially for thespace by famous artists.
We think that Selfridges got a step further in dominating the luxury shopping scene in London not only with locals but with Arabs and Chinese shoppers as well. Would Harrods answer to this? let's wait and see.
