The exorbitant prices of textbooks is a very common problem for all students

, along with the increasing prices of tuition, hostels and other accommodation, all these expenses have made students life a living nightmare, they should be worried about their grades, not about how to get the basic necessity like books.

Textbooks cost around $900-$1000 yearly per student, now thats not only injustice, but also unfair for students specially in this time of an economic crisis when we need more graduates but it seems like they have been victimized even before entering the grounds.

The most disturbing thing is how expensive the books are, like I mentioned before that books are the basic necessity of every student. So, how can these books be so expensive that students are continuously trying to find alternatives? The answer shouldnt be the alternative but should be the book itself.

These books should be free for all students and provided by the college to the students in every semester according to the enrollment of their courses, I know its idealistic and the reality completely contradicts this. Atleast something should be done in order to help resolve this issue.

Yes, there are a few things that can resolve this issue, like buying used books from the campus bookstore, which at the end makes little or no difference because they are completely blocking the publishers to sell their new books. This causes them to increase their prices, and compensate for their huge investments. Also by releasing new editions of the same textbooks after every two or three years and even adding cds and worksheets in order to encourage students to buy new books which of course in the end increases the price of the books, gives the bookstore the opportunity to raise the price on used books. Therefore the textbook industry is no more about educating rather it is about who can earn more profit.

In my view the evilest of them all are bookstores because they are ones who influence the publishers to increase prices on books so that they can sell the used books at higher prices in order to make increase their profit margin as much as possible. And then they offer buyback which is no more than a really bad joke, getting not even quarter of your investment is simply stealing you in daylight.

This gives students no other choice but to either swap books with each other or selling them to their friends and colleagues or donating which atleast gives you some inner peace and satisfaction. But when there is a will there is a way. And as it turns out there are some websites which allow you to swap, buy and sell books on a much broader platform with students from all over the nation.

Because these websites connect students from all colleges, so availability of the books will not be an issue and you can easily swap your old books from last semester with the books you will need in your new semester. At last there are some who understand the need of students and the importance of education and books. The procedure is simple and easy to follow and thousands of students are already doing it, so these sites are trust worthy and along with book swaps they also allow you to rent, buy, sell or even request a book at much better prices then the market offers, along with other features like homework and project help etc.

I hope this is just the beginning and in future there will be more sites or platform which will help in promoting the education and books, so that we can save the future of each students who are in preparation to become the most important resource of the nation and oppose those who are trying to kill and bury the education and books.
