It's important to go out and get a variety of links going back to your website. I think blog commenting is by far one of the most important links you can obtain. There are a lot of blogs out there that you can get a good PR ranking from. I would say the same thing for forums too. The ask/answer sites are good as well.

Most of the web pages that I have on my site will be going after one particular target. I use a lot of terms that are related to each other to rank for one particular keyword. Search engines operate on what is called research reports. The more links that you have saying that you are such and such the more your ranking will climb with the search engines. Think of it like a popularity contest. Who is more popular, A or B. Focus on getting the right kind of links to your website because this tells the search engines what kind of site you have.
