. The distressed look for furniture looks like it has been handed down over generations and painted and repainted many times over and layers peel back to show previous coats by previous owners. This need not be authentic and more often than not these days it probably isnt. Some hardcore fashion victims roll their own and even go so far as staining their own fabrics with tea or other colouring agents like bleach to give them that much vaunted look but new devotees of the shabby chic look can now buy furniture that look just as authentic right in the store itself even when brand new.
